From June 13 to 17, 2022, representatives of Sevastopol State University visited the Syrian Arab Republic.

 

During the busy business program, members of the SevSU delegation held a number of meetings and negotiations with representatives of educational organizations and enterprises in Syria.

One of the main events of the trip was a meeting with the management of the port authority of Tartus. During the meeting, issues such as training of Syrian citizens in maritime specialties and the procedure for issuing working documents to them at the port's maritime administration were discussed. As a result of negotiations with the head of the port, the directions of interaction between Sevastopol State University and the port administration were determined.

During the visit, meetings were also organized with the leadership of a number of Syrian universities.

As part of the visit to Kalamoon University, the SevSU delegation visited an exhibition of student works of the Faculty of Architecture, and also held meetings with the university's management, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Dr. Salim and Associate Professor Vlada Melnik.

Head of the Department "Architecture and Design" of the Institute of Urban Development of SevSU, Professor Krasilnikova Elina Eduardovna gave a lecture on " Landscape urbanism. Introduction to the theory and practice of Landscape Urbanism " for students and teachers of Kalamoon University. A master class on "Designing public spaces on the Kalamoon Campus" was held for third-year students of the Faculty of Architecture. Syrian students under the guidance of Elina Eduardovna chose a real territory for the development of this project. For example, they were shown the project of courtyards of SevSU, developed by students of the Department of Architecture on the basis of the concept of therapeutic gardens.

During the meeting with representatives of the University of Tartu, the parties discussed areas of cooperation in the near future: training of Sevastopol senior students, opening of the Russian Language Department at the Higher Institute of Languages in Tartus; training of Syrian students at Sevastopol State University.

The President of the University of Tartu emphasized the university's interest in developing cooperation with Sevastopol State University, noting the importance of the Russian language outside of Russia.

To provide methodological assistance to Syrian teachers of the Russian language, representatives of Sevastopol State University handed over more than a hundred textbooks and manuals to the Directorate of Education of the province of Tartus. The books will be sent to Syrian schools that teach Russian.

During a conversation with journalists, the Director of the Directorate of International Cooperation of Sevastopol State University, V. O. Struchkov, shared his plans to create a Russian language department at the University of Tartu. This department will train teachers of Russian as a foreign language, as well as teach Russian to foreign students who want to get a higher education in Russia. Vladimir Olegovich expressed hope for further fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation between Sevastopol and Syrian universities.
